Sex is the most amazing experience anyone would love to be a partaker of. It brings joy, fulfillment, and beauty only those involved can tell. It was ordained by God in the garden of Eden. The Bible states it clear that the two of them (Adam and Eve) were naked, and that they felt no shame. “Both the man and his wife were naked yet felt no shame.” (Genesis 2:25, NIV)
This verse may have several meanings;
- It means that both were naked- not wearing any clothes
- it also implies that their personalities, emotions, and desires are open/ exposed to each other, that is to mean they were familiar with each other inside-out.
The reason why many people are ashamed while “making love” is because their conscience condemns them because they know what they are doing is wrong and it’s against the will of God. Sex is a beautiful and amazing act, only when done with the right person in a marriage context.
Sex out of the confines of marriage brings guilt and has severe consequences. To us, as believers, it destroys our relationship with God, since our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, and once defiled, the Spirit can no longer dwell in us. (I Corinthians 3:16-17)
Issue of soul ties
Fornication has the effect of soul ties, making us one (someone’s wife or husband) in the spiritual realm. This opens a door for the demonic attack in our lives and our soul is tormented
“Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in the body? For it is said, "The two will become one flesh." But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit. Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” I Corinthians 6:16-20
Sex as divine
Those who engage in sex in a marriage covenant have nothing to be ashamed of. This is because sex in such a context is God’s gift for the couple to enjoy, anytime anywhere, and it should be done in a manner that honors God. Therefore, a couple should not turn to pornography to get insights but rather should seek help from the right people. This is because the concepts impacted by watching pornographic materials only lead to sexual perversion and lust, and this is an abomination before God.
Sex is sacred since it was ordained by a Holy God, whose desire is that we too should seek to be holy as He is Holy. The blood that is shed during intercourse is a sign of sealing a covenant that only death should break.
The reason why Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed is that they defiled the sacred act of sex, hence defiling their own bodies. therefore, God did not spare them but destroyed the entire city. That’s how serious sex is (it’s sacred). When the sons of God (the angels) rebelled against God and saw that the daughters of men were beautiful, and sired children with them, God became angry and destroyed the entire human race, except Noah and his family who found favor in the sight of the LORD. (Genesis 6:1-8)
Guilt and condemnation after fornication
Ladies, this is the bitter truth that no one has told you yet. The reason why many tend to dump their beautiful girlfriends after sex is because of the guilt that accompanies such an act done out of a marriage covenant. Guilt consciousness fills the heart and minds of men, making them remorseful of their actions. To do away with guilt consciousness, they prefer to quiet the relationship without putting into consideration the feelings of their partners. They claim that “it just happened and that they were not for the act.” Trust me on this, before a man sleeps with you, he has already completed the act in his mind i.e. he has already planned it out and he is sure he will get you to do it with him.
You may wonder how true such a statement may be, trust me on this. The Bible displays such a picture clearly in the story of Amnon and Tamar. (II Samuel 13:8-19)
Verse 15 displays a clear picture of how lust works. Once the act is complete the man hates the lady more than he had “loved” her. Amnon sends Tamar out of his room after raping her, in fact, he forced her into the act, there was no consent. It will be true to say that Amnon raped Tamar.
Conjugal rights
Sex is meant to consummate a marriage and not a relationship. It is like glue, it binds both the soul and spirit of the couple, making them one. It brings joy and fulfillment in marriage.
The Bible states clearly that, “a couple should not deny each other their conjugal right except by mutual consent.” (I Corinthians 7:3-5)
A couple should not put their partner in a difficult situation in the name of prayer and fasting. One should seek consent from the other partner before they plan to fast. Once you are done with prayer and fasting, come quickly into the marital bed so that satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
Sex is like a nuclear reaction that is difficult to initiate, but once it picks up, it’s difficult to stop. This is the main reason why young people should not arouse love until it so desires. (Songs of Solomon 2:7,3:5)
A couple will always find it difficult to live away from their partner. the majority fall into the trap of unfaithfulness due to a lack of self-control. It’s advisable that the couple should not stay away from each other for a long time, lest they give the enemy a chance to destroy their beautiful marriage and dreams. Your partner needs your company a lot. Remember that marriage is about companionship, and not about the children and the house.
