What is the biblical meaning of dreaming of a snake? Since time immemorial people have been dreaming of snakes. The symbolism of snake dreams is also discussed in detail in scripture (Genesis 3:1).

Biblical Meaning of Dreaming of a Snake

We see the devil using the character of a serpent to trick Eve into rebelling against God. He deceived them that by disobeying God they would be like him, little did they know they were already like God as they were created in his image and likeness. They were placed in the Garden of Eden to execute God’s Will.

The symbolism of a snake in a dream can best be interpreted based on:

  1. Where the snake bites in a dream.
  2. Based on the snake’s color in a dream
  3. The snake’s action in the dream
  4. The type of snake in question and its characteristics.

There are many sources from which we can draw the interpretation of snake symbolism. However, as believers in Jesus Christ, we are supposed to rely on God for the interpretation, for “in Christ Jesus is the total of all wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2:3

There is only one place in the scriptures where a snake is used to symbolize something positive. It is when God asked Moses to erect a brazen serpent which symbolized that the son of man shall be crucified to bring salvation to all who look to him. Therefore, the symbolism represents redemption and salvation of mankind from his sinful nature.

The snake is portrayed as an evil entity. It represents the devil himself, the serpent in the Garden of Eden. It also represents the schemes of the evil one, his cunning nature to deceive man to fall from the path of righteousness.

Since snakes are poisonous, they can also indicate evil influence and danger that lurks in the darkness to destroy the simple. It is fatal and can also cause paralysis and health issues. It may also indicate witchcraft or even a spell cast to cause sicknesses and poison your life entirely.

Snake dreams may symbolize spiritual warfare with demons of a higher ranking or even the devil himself.

I remember having a dream where a rat snake bit my forehead several times. In the dream I was resting beside a river (river represents the flow of life – progress), then I walked up and went to a beautiful field covered with grass. As I was lying down, all of a sudden, a snake bit my forehead wounding me.

I had the dream on a Saturday, the next morning when I was in the church, the visiting pastor inspired by the Spirit of God warned that whoever was having snake dreams should not take it lightly. I knew God was speaking to me to take action through prayers and fasting.

A Prayer Against Snake Dreams

  • “Heavenly Father,
  • I come before You seeking Your divine protection and guidance. I confess my fears about the recurring snake dreams that trouble my spirit. Your Word assures us that You have not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7).
  • Lord, I ask for Your strength to overcome these troubling dreams. Grant me discernment to understand the deeper spiritual messages they may carry.
  • I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against me in judgment shall be condemned (Isaiah 54:17).
  • In the name of Jesus Christ, I rebuke any spiritual attack associated with these dreams. I declare Your authority over my life and ask for Your divine intervention to bring peace and assurance to my heart.
  • May Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard my heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).
  • I surrender these dreams into Your hands, Lord, knowing that You are greater than any spiritual disturbance. I ask for Your divine intervention to bring clarity to my life.
  • Help me, Lord, to walk in faith and not in fear. Thank you for the assurance that You are with me always, protecting and guiding me through every situation.
  • I thank You for Your faithfulness and love, Lord. In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen.”

    It crossed and we proceeded

    1. The python symbolizes a suffocating Spirit, the will try to hinder the wedding plans.

Pray and fasting to raise against every authority fighting the will of God concerning your marriage.

Consider dedicating your marriage and wedding to God for protection and sanctification. Raise an altar through a sacrifice for your protection.

May God see you through and bless you.

Hi,what does it mean when you dream of a colourful snake biting the back of your right hand?

        1. The most poisonous snakes tend to be very colorful. And your right hand symbolizes your strength as it stands for a dimension of power and authority.

There is an enemy attacking this aspect of your life. Pray about it

  2. I dreamt of throwing up fishes and snakes; they seems alive, and I felt good after that

  3. Good day man of God, I had a dream of a snake trying to bite some one close to me, I immediately took action by trying to stop the snake and by doing so, caught the attention of the snake and it bit me by the side of my stomach, I dragged it off and with anger killed the snake with a shoe, detaching its head from the body. The snake was a red and black cobra, the body is black and the belly part is red (I can still picture it as am writing this message) it wasn’t funny though.

More so, my wife had a dream of a big snake (python) but this one BARKS like a dog too, trying to creep into our house but could not, but she said she saw a woman that took her by her hand and told her to follow her as she walk through the mist of the snake and they could not do anything to both of them and that was her she came into the house, few months latter her brother came for holiday at our house and had same dream again but this time one of the founding father of one of the big churches in Nigeria came and some flee and some killed.

    1. Always be careful when involving yourself in other people spiritual battles. Let them fight their own battles, because you have no idea what you are up against. This is the message the dream is conveying.

Before you consider praying for someone, ask yourself if you are backed up by a stronger alter, if you are sanctified, if you are covered, and if your spiritual gifts are dedicated to God for protection? Don’t just throw blows aimlessly in the spiritual realm as you have no idea what you are up against.

I don’t mean that you should never pray for anyone, but ask the Holy Spirit if He wants you to do so. Seek God’s will first.

You may pray for someone out of the will of God, and end up with their problems. Beware! Wisdom is supreme and seek God’s will on the matter.

That’s why in the dream you ended up hurt, however you overcame the enemy by killing the snake.

    2. To God alone be all the glory.
