Can God provide through betting, and is betting a sin? You cannot limit God’s means of providing for his people. Even though betting is not the ideal means of provision, God can still provide through betting, however, he will do it for various reasons and not necessarily to encourage you to bet or involve yourself in any illegal pursuit.

Can God provide through betting

The reason why God will allow you to win a bet is to prove that he hears your prayer and secondly, he knows your needs. He is training you to trust in him, and that He is for you and not against you. However, when you mature as a Christian you will have to learn to trust in God’s providence and refrain from putting your God to the test.

For example, God used lepers who were outcasts in Israel to provide for the people in Samaria during a seven years siege by the King of Syria. (2 Kings 6:24-33, 7:1-20).

If God has provided for you through winning a bet it doesn’t mean he will always do so.

Why betting is wrong: biblical reasons not to bet

  • The betting system is designed to rob many and reward a few. This is against the biblical teachings of Justice.
  • Most people who tend to bet put their trust in a corrupt system rather than God.
  • Betting in general encourages sloth and suppresses the need for at work.
  • There are many risks involved with relying on chances. You can lose all your savings for no reason.
  • The Bible teaches that “all things are permissible but not all are beneficial” and no one should allow themselves to be enslaved by anything. On the contrary, betting is addictive in nature, hence putting you under bondage. (1 Corinthians 6:12).
  • Proverbs 13:11 teach that “wealth and in haste will dwindle away, but he who gathers money little by little makes it grow”.
