Most of us think of sex dreams as weird and demonic experiences in our sleep. However, the contrary is true. And can God speak to me through a sex dream or sex imagery in my dreams? The answer is yes. Are sex dreams demonic? The answer to that is yes and no as it depends. For you to be attacked by demonic spirits commonly known as spiritual spouses, which are marine spirits, they must first have access to your body. And where do they get that access? It is through sin which opens spiritual loopholes and gives the enemy a legal right of operation in your life.
However, if you are living in purity the good news is that sex dreams may have a unique message for you. God uses familiar things in nature to speak to us and even different emotions to convey His message to us in our dreams. For example, if you are a workaholic, sex in a dream symbolizes your obsession, what you are consumed with. Remember sex is intended to unite, and unify a husband and his wife. Meaning, that in your waking life you are attached to your work to the extent it has become part of you, hence almost inseparable. That’s why you feel sick if you don’t work.
In your dream, your work might be symbolized by a beautiful lady. That doesn’t mean you are having an affair outside the marriage. It is just a reflection of your waking life. Perhaps the dream is simply telling you to balance your time and attention as one part of your life is consuming all your efforts making you miss out on other important matters such as your quality time with your kids and wife.
Remember that most dreams speak to our current situation and reflect the conditions/state of our hearts. The dream is to be taken symbolically and not literally.
Examples of sex symbolism in the Bible.
The Bible is full of dreams in fact a third of it is dreams, hence we can’t be ignorant of the messages and warnings God conveys through them despite the means he chooses to use.
1. Biblical sex symbolism in the book of Song of Solomon.
This book has the most sex imagery between a husband and they are very applicable in a dream. Most people are even uncomfortable reading it, the same way you feel about sex dreams. Allow me to give you some of these specific verses.
A garden locked is my sister, my bride, a spring locked, a fountain sealed. Your shoots are an orchard of pomegranates with all choicest fruits, henna with nard, nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense, myrrh, and aloes, with all choice spices— a garden fountain, a well of living water, and flowing streams from Lebanon. Awake, O north wind, and come O south wind! Blow upon my garden, let its spices flow. Song of Solomon 4:12-16
This text symbolizes the body of a virgin and especially her genitalia.
Your stature is like a palm tree, and your breasts are like its clusters. I say I will climb the palm tree and lay hold of its fruit. Oh may your breasts be like clusters of the vine, and the scent of your breath like apples, and your mouth like the best wine. It goes down smoothly for my beloved, gliding over lips and teeth. Song of Solomon 7:7-9
2. sex imagery in the book of Ezekiel.
The prophet was seeing the thing he wrote either in a vision or a dream. The sex imagery in Ezekiel was intended to express God’s relationship with his people Israel or expose the sin of His people. (Ezekiel 16:3-7, 15-18, 23-26, 28-34).
Ezekiel 16:28-34, ESV You played the whore also with the Assyrians because you were not satisfied; yes, you played the whore with them, and still, you were not satisfied (They sought a league with them). You multiplied your whoring also with the trading land of Chaldea, and even with this, you were not satisfied. (Meaning they involved themselves in idolatry and worshipped strange gods). “How sick is your heart, declares the Lord God (meaning the problem was as a result of a hardened heart, uncircumcised hearts), because you did all these things, the deeds of a brazen prostitute, building your vaulted chamber at the head of every street, and making your lofty place in every square. Yet you were not like a prostitute, because you scorned payment. Adulterous wife, who receives strangers instead of her husband! Men give gifts to all prostitutes, but you gave your gifts to all your lovers, bribing them to come to you from every side with your illicit favors. So, you were different from other women in your illicit favors. No one solicited you to play the whore, and you gave payment, while no payment was given to you; therefore, you were different.
All of these scriptures are rich in sex imagery which is meant to be understood as symbolic. The people addressed were familiar with this type of writing style and poetry.
Again, in Ezekiel 23, God rebuked Samaria and Jerusalem for their harlotry. (Ezekiel 23:1-9, 11-16).
Ezekiel 23:1-9, NIV The word of the Lord came to me: “Son of man, there were two women, daughters of the same mother. They became prostitutes in Egypt, engaging in prostitution from their youth (meaning this was their tendency). In that land, their breasts were fondled and their virgin bosoms caressed (meaning they defiled their innocence and purity by committing idolatries). The older was named Oholah, and her sister was Oholibah. They were mine and gave birth to sons and daughters. Oholah is Samaria, and Oholibah is Jerusalem. “Oholah engaged in prostitution while she was still mine; and she lusted after her lovers the Assyrians, (meaning she went after strange gods of the Assyrians and neglected her legal husband Yahweh) —warriors clothed in blue, governors and commanders, all of them handsome young men, and mounted horsemen (She went after vain seductions, pleasures, and alliances at the expense of her spiritual obligation to God). She gave herself as a prostitute to all the elite of the Assyrians and defiled herself with all the idols of everyone she lusted after. She did not give up the prostitution she began in Egypt, when during her youth men slept with her, caressed her virgin bosom, and poured out their lust on her. “Therefore, I delivered her into the hands of her lovers, the Assyrians, for whom she lusted. (That which they trusted will turn out to be a snare and an instrument of their punishment).
These are just a few examples, there are many more of the same kind. You can learn how to effectively interpret your dreams.
