Understanding God’s grace

A clear picture of God’s grace is depicted in the book of Hosea, where God asks him to marry a prostitute by the name of Gomer.

“When the LORD began to speak through Hosea, the LORD said to him, "Go, take to yourself an adulterous wife and children of unfaithfulness, because the land is guilty of the vilest adultery in departing from the LORD." So he married Gomer the daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.”
(Hosea 1:2-3, NIV)

I wondered why would God ask a righteous man like Hosea (even though there is no one who is righteous), to marry a prostitute. Did Hosea not deserve a beautiful pure lady? Of cause, he did, but then what was God’s purpose in this matter?

Hosea was symbolizing a true picture of who God is and Gomer was symbolizing Israel (in our current dispensation the Church). Israel was the nation that God choose to glorify His name through. But Israel as a nation missed the point, they did not realize the purpose of their election. God chose them to be the light and salt of the world, so that through their lifestyle and religious rituals other nations may come to the knowledge of Yahweh. At the time God summoned Hosea, Israel was defiling herself with idols and had forsaken their true, loving, and faithful God.

The true nature of our hearts Vs God’s grace.

Despite Hosea showing kindness to Gomer, she still played the harlot and was unfaithful. But Hosea kept on loving her despite her wickedness. All that time God has always been watching over us and loving us despite our sinful ways. He Has always been there showing us kindness yet we could not understand and appreciate it.

Some of us should be dead, but the grace of our LORD has kept us. We never earned it and can never earn it for it is the unmerited favor of God to wicked people like us. Gomer ended up being sold as a slave by her lovers, but Hosea redeemed her for the sum of thirty coins of silver, the same price for which Jesus was betrayed.

Betrayed for thirty coins of silver, the price of a common slave, and hanged on that cursed tree (in the place of the skull), Jesus redeemed us and reconciled us to the Father through His blood and has made us sons in the kingdom. Is this not grace?

God can heal you and deliver you from the most perverse state and set you free if only you would let Him. His hands are stretched wide to embrace you with love and mercy. For with our God, nothing is impossible.
