A couple hugging on the beach

Being in love sometimes can be weird. Love gives us a reason to persevere, it humbles us. God can use a relationship to work on one’s personality. Trust me on this, I have seen it work. Indeed to love is to live. If you have never loved, you are yet to live.

Have you ever asked yourself how strange it is to love somebody so dearly, but yet they don’t appreciate it, they don’t see it? And why it is so difficult to let go?

No one knows the desires, thoughts, and depth of another person’s heart, not even the person himself/herself. It’s God alone that searches the depth of our hearts. Him alone understands our longings, our pain, and our weakness. It’s true to say that, if you have not loved, you have not lived. For love, our Lord Jesus persevered even death at the cross for He knew the weight of glory that was before Him.

“Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.”
(Hebrews 12:1b-2, NIV)

Characteristics of love

For love, God laid down His life as a ransom to redeem us who never deserved His divine grace. Indeed, it’s amazing grace that Jesus died for a wretch like me. Most people tend to quit a relationship when things start to get serious. This is because they probably don’t want to make a commitment. They are afraid to commit their lives; they try to escape from the reality. Thanks to our Lord Jesus and God our Father, for nothing, is hidden before him but all is laid bare.

True love is rare to find and it’s precious. It is not just a normal thing for one to commit to love you when they know your flaws. True Love is everlasting, never fails, covers a multitude of sins, it’s kind, not proud, always persevere, does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

“Love is patient, love is kind. Love does not envy, is not boastful, is not conceited, does not act improperly, is not selfish, is not provoked, and does not keep a record of wrongs. Love finds no joy in unrighteousness but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends”
(1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
